Status of Review by the Saugerties Town Board
The Saugerties Town Board has been asked to review Winston Farm’s Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement, which was submitted on Aug. 15, 2024. In addition, the Town Board is being asked by Winston Farm to have town consultants to weigh in on the DGEIS’ completeness and offer questions. Winston Farm welcomes feedback and insights. Read the DGEIS here. Read updates from the Town of Saugerties on its special Winston Farm webpage at saugerties.ny.us/other/winston-farm.
The DGEIS has been submitted as part of Winston Farm’s application to create a Planned Development District for the property. That request spurred a mandatory review under the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA).
Before construction can be permitted, the Town Board is asked to approve the detailed zoning amendment application creating the Planned Development District.
The Planning Board later will be asked to approve plans for specific site uses.
Recent Key Steps in the Application Process
July 2022: The Town Board issues a “positive declaration,” setting the stage for public scoping led by the town to determine studies to be completed. The results will be included in the Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DGEIS) required by the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA).
January 2023: The Town Board defines the topics to study. Results – derived from numerous studies, tests and reviews conducted at Winston Farm’s expense – seek to shape development parameters and ensure the proposal can be thoroughly evaluated by the Town Board, other agencies and the community.
